Health Care
I believe adequate health care should be a right for every American. Health care is an issue that concerns every one of us, regardless of what we look like or where we come from. We all want what is best for the health and well-being of ourselves and our families. I was proud to vote for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010. Since its enactment, the law has given millions of Americans access to health care coverage. Thanks to the ACA, insurance companies can no longer deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions, young people can stay on their parents’ health plan until they turn 26, and all insurance plans must cover health care basics like emergency room visits, hospital stays, and prescription drugs. No law is ever perfect, and now we need to work together in a bipartisan way to strengthen and improve the Affordable Care Act.
My Work on Health Care
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) demanded that the Department of Health and Human Services re-open a database of up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines on how best to diagnose, treat, and prevent over 1,000 medical conditions or diseases. Foster and 46 Democratic Members of Congress sent a letter to express their concern over reports that the Department of Health and Human Services shut down the database.

“I voted for this legislation because it provides a critical expansion of medication-assisted treatment for individuals who struggle with opioid dependency by expanding the types and number of medical providers who have the authority to prescribe buprenorphine to treat opioid dependency. I am also pleased that my bipartisan legislation was included in the final bill.
Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville, will host a forum to discuss teen suicide and mental health in Bolingbrook next week.

We still have a long list of priorities to resolve. Congress has not voted on the DREAM Act to allow individuals who were brought to the United States through no fault of their own to stay in the country. We need to provide funding to combat the opioid and heroin crisis, and we need to stabilize health care marketplaces so that premiums do not skyrocket.
