After the Supreme Court ruled against working people in the Janus v. AFSCME, Council 31, case last week, dozens of members of Congress condemned the ruling and expressed their support for the rights of working people. Here are excerpts from their statements.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressmen Brendan F. Boyle (PA-13) and Marc Veasey (TX-33) issued the following joint statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to strike down public sector unions’ fair-share fees in Janus v. AFSCME. By law, unions represent all employees regardless of the employee’s financial contribution to the union. Now, with this decision, public sector employees who enjoy the rights and benefits secured through collective bargaining may no longer be required to pay “fair-share” dues to their unions.

This was not an April Fool's Day joke: The New York Buy American Act went into effect on April 1, 2018. Signed by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in December 2017 and championed by state legislators on both sides of the aisle, the NY BAA amends the existing domestic content restrictions in Section 146 of the New York State Finance Law and Section 2603-a of the New York Public Authorities Law by adding another layer of “Buy American” requirements focused on structural iron and structural steel products used in certain construction projects.

Washington (CNN) -- Former Vice President Joe Biden was back on Capitol Hill meeting with Democrats on Wednesday ahead of the midterm elections, attempting to bridge a divide in his party between progressives and blue-collar voters.
Biden, repeating an argument he's been making of late, said there should be "no reason for any conflict" between the two wings of the party. "There's no distinction in the Democratic Party between our social agenda and our agenda in terms of the economy," he told reporters.
