John N. Mitchell was born on September 5, 1913, at Detroit, Michigan. He was appointed as Attorney General in the Richard Nixon administration. He graduated from Fordham University Law School and was a member of the New York and District of Columbia bars. John Mitchell was married to Martha Elizabeth Beale Jennings and has one daughter by her, named Martha. This was his second marriage, and he had a son and daughter by his first marriage. Martha had been married before and had one son by that marriage. John Mitchell addressed the graduating class of the FBI National Academy on June 30, 1971. John Mitchell resigned as Attorney General on March 1, 1972. Mrs. Mitchell called and complained that her telephone line was tapped, and it appeared from her voice that she was intoxicated. John Mitchell died in Washington, D.C. on November 9, 1988.
