Rep. Cardin Announces Substantial New Federal Funding for Tipton Airport Improvements

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin announced today that Tipton Airport will receive almost $750,000 in federal grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to improve and rehabilitate the airport. The Tipton Airport Authority is a public corporation created by Anne Arundel County.

Tipton has been awarded two grants by the FAA. The airport will receive a $615,600 grant to rehabilitate the airport’s apron, including replacing damaged slabs and sealing joints. The apron is the concrete area where planes are parked. It also will receive $131,100 to install mandatory guidance signs to enhance safety. The signs will be installed at intersections along the taxiway.

"Tipton Airport is a very important economic engine for Anne Arundel County. I am pleased that the FAA understands the importance of Tipton to businesses and private plane owners in the Anne Arundel County area, and that it will provided the federal funding needed to make improvements to Tipton," said Rep. Cardin, who represents a majority of Anne Arundel County in the House of Representatives.

The Tipton Airport Authority expects to start work on the improvement and rehabilitation projects by August. Currently, approximately 120 aircraft are based at Tipton, including the Anne Arundel County police.
