Rep. Cardin Announces $40,500 Grant for Pikesville Volunteer Fire Department

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin announced today that the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Department will receive a grant of $40,500 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to install a sprinkler system in the fire station on Old Court Road.

The grant is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program that awards one-year grants directly to local fire departments to make needed modifications to fire stations and facilities and to enhance the ability of local fire departments to respond to fire and fire-related hazards. In FY 2003, the DHS distributed $750 million in firefighter grants, an increase of $390 million from the previous year.

"The Pikesville Volunteer Fire Department is a outstanding volunteer department that provides many important services to our community. These firefighters are dedicated to helping in times of crisis, and this grant will enable the department to upgrade and modernize the facility," said Rep. Cardin, a member of the Homeland Security Committee.
