Hoyer Congratulates Winner of Congressional Arts Competition

Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) congratulated Veronica Loveless today as the winner of the 5th Congressional District High School Congressional Arts Competition. Loveless visited the Capitol today to meet with Congressman Hoyer and she participated in events on Capitol Hill to recognize the talented young artists who won similar competitions in other Congressional districts. Veronica Loveless, 16, just completed her junior year at Grace Brethren Christian School.

Hoyer Gives Commencement Address at Anne Arundel Community College

Congressman Steny Hoyer gave the Commencement Address last night at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) where he congratulated the graduates and their families and spoke of the importance of lifelong learning in an age of rapid technological advancement, economic change and globalization. This morning, Rep. Hoyer also attended the U.S. Naval Academy Graduation ceremony in Annapolis. Congressman Hoyer has been a member of the Naval Academy Board of Visitors for the past 11 years.

Eighteen Local Students Offered Appointments to U.S. Service Academies

Eighteen students from the Fifth Congressional District (Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties, and areas of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties) were offered appointments to a U.S. Service academy this year. Congressman Steny Hoyer nominated the students last year. Seventeen students accepted the appointment and joined Congressman Hoyer at an afternoon tea with their families in recognition of their accomplishments.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) introduced a bill to authorize funding for Full-Service Community Schools (H.R. 2207), which are public schools that coordinate multiple educational and social service programs with community-based organizations and public/private partnerships.

Congressman Steny Hoyer joined the Presidents of Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) and Howard Community College (HCC) to announce the award of almost $200,000 for the Laurel College Center that he secured in the federal Omnibus Appropriations Act passed by the Congress late last year.
