Hoyer Releases Judy Center Evaluation

HOWARD COUNTY - Congressman Steny Hoyer today released the Judith P. Hoyer Early Care & Education Enhancement Program Evaluation and discussed the results of the study at a press conference at the Cradlerock School Judy Center in Columbia, which included special guest State Superintendent of Schools Nancy S. Grasmick. Congressman Hoyer worked to establish "Judy Centers," early education centers for young children, which are named after his late wife and educator Judith P. Hoyer. There are currently 24 Judy Centers across the state of Maryland.

Hoyer Introduces Bill to Support Full Service Schools

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Steny Hoyer today met with leading advocates of full-service community schools to discuss his introduction of the "Full-Service Community Schools Act." This bill, which will be introduced later this week, authorizes funding for full-service community schools, which are public elementary or secondary schools that coordinate multiple federal, state and local educational and social service programs in partnerships with school districts, community-based organizations and public/private partnerships. Congressman Hoyer helped establish "Judy Centers" across Maryland, which are full-service schools.

Hoyer Awarded for Support of Stock Market Education Program

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer today received recognition for his sponsorship of a team of students from Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro in the Securities Industry Association's (SIA) "Capitol Hill Challenge," a special competition using SIA's Stock Market Education Program. The Stock Market Game introduces young people to the capital markets and the basics of investing within the framework of an interactive, educational simulation.

Hoyer and Discovery Village Working to Save the Bay

SHADYSIDE, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer joined the founder of Discovery Village, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and 30 4th grade students from Shadyside Elementary School to dedicate land on the Discovery Village property that will be restored as a natural vegetated shoreline. The natural shoreline includes the creation of a terrapin nesting beach and marsh islands for the numerous wildlife habitats.

Frederick Douglass High School Students Participating in 'Capitol Hill Challenge'

UPPER MARLBORO - Congressman Steny Hoyer visited Frederick Douglass High School today to talk to students and faculty about their participation in The Stock Market Game. Frederick Douglass students have been competing in the 'Capitol Hill Challenge' since March, which is supported by Congressman Steny Hoyer and 16 other members of Congress to introduce high school students to our capital markets.
