The Census Bureau reported that nearly 45 million Americans, including more than 1 million Marylanders, were without any form of health insurance in 2003. In its Current Population Survey, during the same year, the Bureau reported the largest increase in the number of uninsured people in the past decade - an increase of 14.6 percent, or 2.4 million people, over 2002. Congressman Hoyer is fighting to make healthcare more affordable for all Americans, and is also fighting to protect funding for Medicaid, so that health care is accessible to more Americans.
