Friday, February 13, 2004 House Leadership of Congressional Fire Services Caucus Laments Cuts to Fire Grant Program
WASHINGTON, DC - The House leadership of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, led by House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD), sent a letter yesterday to President Bush urging him to reconsider his decision to significantly reduce funding for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. In his fiscal year 2005 budget, the Bush Administration proposes reducing the $750 million grant program by one-third, for a cut of $250 million dollars.
Tuesday, February 10, 2004 Hoyer: Administration’s Budget Slashes COPS Funding
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer released the following statement today expressing his deep concern for the Administration’s budget proposal which guts funding for the Community Oriented Policing (COPS) program. The Bush Administration’s budget request for Fiscal Year 2005 provides only $44 million for the COPS program, $712 million, or 87%, below the FY04 level, and also calls for eliminating the Universal Hiring Program.
Monday, February 09, 2004 Hoyer Encourages Maryland to Observe Child Passenger Safety Week
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer today joined the National SAFE KIDS Campaign and SAFE KIDS Prince George’s County in his district to call attention to National Child Passenger Safety Week (February 8-14), a nationwide child passenger safety initiative. In Maryland, 53 deaths to children and adolescents occurred from 2000 - 2001 as a result of motor vehicle crashes.
