WASHINGTON, DC –– U.S. Senator Kit Bond today announced that the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will send Springfield $1.2 million in federal dollars.
"These dollars will help Springfield update their public transportation system," said Bond. "The news buses and improvements this money will buy will make transportation safer and more efficient throughout Springfield."
DOT's FTA will send the City Utilities of Springfield $1,278,782. The funds will be used to purchase two fixed route buses, security cameras for buses and transit facilities and construction of 36 bus turnouts.
Bond, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee, along with Congressman Roy Blunt, secured the $1.2 million for Springfield buses in the fiscal year 2003 Appropriations Bill.
Kit Bond is Missouri’s senior Senator and is now in his third term after having served the state previously during two terms as Governor.
