Helping Workers Balance the Demands of Work and Family
Providing Family Time (Comp Time) Options to Private Sector Parents – As Government Workers Currently Have

Republicans want American workers, particularly working mothers and fathers, to be able to choose to spend more time with their families.  Under current law, federal employees have the right to choose extra time off with their families instead of receiving overtime pay for extra work.  This “family time” option, very popular with federal employees, is denied to private sector workers across America because it is illegal for employers to offer such options under an outdated 1938 law that was not written with the realities of the 21st Century workplace in mind.

The denial of “family time” rights to private sector workers is a growing problem for American society as working women and men leading increasingly busy lives find it more and more difficult to balance family and work responsibilities.  In the 109th Congress, House Republicans remain committed to pushing legislation, such as the Family Time Flexibility Act, that provide workers increased flexibility to balance the needs of work and family and give them more time to spend with their family.
