SHERWOOD INCLUDED IN CONGRESSIONAL GROUP EXPLORING KOSOVO ALTERNATIVES WITH RUSSIAN OFFICIALS

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Don Sherwood is with a bi-partisan group of 11 House members who are meeting in Vienna, Austria, with Russian officials to explore options regarding the crisis in Kosovo.

The 11-member U.S. Congressional delegation, headed by Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.), a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, will be meeting with leaders of the Russian Duma to discuss frameworks for possible solutions and alternatives to continued or additional military action.

The group, which includes five Republicans, five Democrats and one independent, arrived in Vienna this morning and will return to Andrews Air Force Base, Md., Sunday night. The group has U.S. government authorization to travel and meet with the Russian group.

Weldon, chairman of the Armed Services Committee's subcommittee on Research and Development and a member of its subcommittee on Readiness, is also the U.S. chairman of the Duma-Congress Working Group and has made numerous visits to Russia, developing relationships with Duma leaders and members of all political factions.

Sherwood is a member of the House Armed Services Committee's subcommittee on Readiness and its subcommittee on Research & Development.
