Congressman Sessions is committed to supporting the President’s efforts to make our nation stronger and safer. One of his main concerns is the prevention of future attacks by enemies with proven track records of brutality. Congressman Sessions firmly backed President Bush’s decision to use force to disarm Iraq and remove Saddam Hussein from power. Congressman Sessions also backed President Bush’s efforts in the War on Terror. He was an original cosponsor of the U.S. declaration of war against international terrorism and its sponsors. In response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Congressman Sessions voted in favor of tax relief for the victims and $40 billion funding for improvements to our national and domestic security. He also supported a House resolution authorizing the President to use force against any person or group the President determines has participated in the terrorist attacks, or harbored those organizations or persons.
Congressman Sessions supports legislative efforts to strengthen our national security by pursuing important objectives:
Congressman Sessions remains committed to the President’s foreign policy goals for diplomacy and peace abroad, including reinforcements for victory in Iraq. The consequences of failure would be grievous and far-reaching, and Congressman Sessions believes that Congress should support the request of military commanders for additional troops and implement military, political, and social benchmarks for success in Iraq with the President’s new strategy. The War on Terror requires our continued dedication and preparedness, and Congressman Sessions supports the President’s call for increasing the strength of our military with the addition of 92,000 soldiers and marines in the next five years.
