Biggert to Tour EJ&E; with Plainfield Leaders

WHAT:
Biggert will join Mayor Waldorf and other local officials to tour locations in Plainfield that would be most severely impacted by Canadian National Railway’s (CN) acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway (EJ&E;) line.

WHY:
If approved by the Surface Transportation Board (STB), Canadian National Railway’s (CN) purchase of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Rail Line (EJ&E;) would increase train traffic on the line through Will and DuPage Counties by as much as 150%, raising concerns about safety, noise, congestion, and pollution. Biggert, Mayor Waldorf, and other local officials will meet Monday to tour the line and discuss how the EJ&E; acquisition would affect Plainfield and the steps necessary to mitigate the negative impact on the surrounding community should the merger be approved.
