WHO: - U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) - Tom Weisner, Mayor of Aurora - Leroy V. Keith, Alderman, Ward Nine - Eric Gallt, Aurora Traffic Engineer WHAT: Biggert will join Mayor Weisner and other local officials to tour locations in Aurora that would be most severely impacted by Canadian National Railway’s (CN) acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway (EJ&E;) line. WHEN: Tuesday, July 1, 2008 8:30 am WHERE: Aurora Fire Station #8 3770 McCoy Drive Aurora, IL 60504 WHY: If approved by the Surface Transportation Board (STB), Canadian National Railway’s (CN) purchase of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Rail Line (EJ&E;) would increase train traffic on the line through Will and DuPage Counties by as much as 150%, raising concerns about safety, noise, congestion, and pollution. Biggert, Mayor Weisner, and other local officials will meet Tuesday to tour the line and discuss how the EJ&E; acquisition would affect Aurora and the steps necessary to mitigate the negative impact on the surrounding community should the merger be approved. Members of the media are invited to join this tour, which will step-off at Aurora Fire Station #8 and include a stop at the McCoy Street crossing. Those wishing to attend should contact Neil Narine at (815) 474-9438 for more detailed times and locations.
