Hoyer Statement on Veterans' Quality of Life Bills

Says Bills on Floor Today are an Important Step in Keeping Promise to Care For Our Veterans

WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement regarding three bills to be considered by the House today that will improve the quality of life for U.S. veterans:

"I am proud to support three bills that will go a long way toward improving the quality of life for our veterans: the Joshua Omvig Veterans Suicide Prevention Act (introduced by Congressman Leonard Boswell), the Dr. James Allen Veteran Vision Equity Act (introduced by Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin), and the Veterans Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2007 (introduced by Congressman John Hall).  These bills continue Democrats' efforts to keep this nation's promise to care for our veterans.

"Today's legislation will have a positive impact on our veterans and their families.  The three bills on the Floor today will work to reduce the incidence of suicide among veterans, provide adequate compensation to veterans with eye injuries, and set a routine cost-of-living increase for benefits of veterans.

"This nation is deeply indebted to our veterans for their selfless service.  Passing these bills is the least we can do to ensure that they receive the care they deserve."
