MESSAGE FROM THE MAJORITY LEADER
|
This week, Democrats did what Republicans failed to do since 2000: adopt a federal budget in an election year.
Adopting a budget is important because it shows that Democrats know where we want to lead the nation and how we want to get there. It is a critical blueprint that guides government investment and details how to put our nation on sound fiscal footing.
The Democratic 2008 budget turns away from the Bush Administration's failed policies that have created record deficits and debt, instead focusing on restoring fiscal responsibility. Our budget outlines how we would meet the critical needs of the American people, including middle-class tax relief and investments to keep America safe, boost economic growth, and help families struggling in the Bush economy.
Next week, the House will consider legislation reauthorizing Amtrak and NASA. We also expect to consider the emergency appropriations for Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sincerely yours,
STENY H. HOYER
