Brown Applauds VA Announcement to Increase Travel Reimbursement for Veterans

November 21, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today applauded the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) announcement to increase travel reimbursement for veterans. The announcement made this week means veterans who travel to a VA facility for medical care will receive a 13 cent increase per mile for their travel expenses.

“Veterans in Ohio often travel far distances to receive medical care,” said Brown. “Access to veterans’ health care remains a major hurdle, but an increase in mileage reimbursement is a step in the right direction.”

Brown has heard concerns from many Ohio veterans regarding travel distances and costs they face to receive medical care at VA facilities. The increase in mileage reimbursement from 28.5 to 41.5 cents per mile will help ease the burden of travel for eligible veterans.

Veterans eligible for the mileage reimbursement include those who are considered service-connected, those receiving VA pensions, and veterans with minimal income.
