Brown Announces Nearly $200,000 For Fire Districts in Southwest Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced $189,116 has been awarded to several Southwestern Ohio Fire Districts by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” said Brown. “These funds ensure that firefighters in Southwestern Ohio have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely.”

The following Southwestern Ohio Fire Departments will receive a combined total of nearly $200,000 for department improvements:

•    Mendon Union Fire Department, $53,865 for equipment, health, and safety updates;
•    Quincy-Miami Township Fire Department, $67,421 for equipment, health, and safety updates;
•    Milford Community Fire Department, $43,510 for equipment, health, and safety updates; and
•    Huntsville Fire Department, $24,320 for equipment, health, and safety updates.

According to FEMA, the Assistance to Firefighter Grants are used to help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. Since 2004, nearly $2.75 billion in grant money has been awarded to first responder organizations.
