CBCF is co-sponsoring the second annual National Conference on Health Disparities, set for December 4-7 at the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Croix. Congresswoman Donna M. Christensen (left), chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust, will be participating in the conference along with Marjorie A. Innocent, Ph.D., the Foundation's director of research and programs, and Ivory A. Toldson, Ph.D., a CBCF senior research analyst.

CBCF is now accepting applications for its 2009 Congressional Internship Program and a resident assistant’s position. The summer program provides college undergraduates with a coveted behind-the-scenes look into the democratic process. Participating students will receive housing and a stipend. The internship application postmark deadline is February 13, 2009. Session dates are May 24-July 24, 2009.

CBCF is now accepting applications for the 2009 CBCF/Wal-Mart Emerging Leaders Internship Program, which gives minority students opportunities within the legislative, executive and judicial branches of the federal government. Participating students will receive housing, a stipend and a small travel allotment. The application postmark deadline is Dec. 5, 2008. Session dates are January 12-May 8, 2009.

CBCF hosted networking events at both the Democratic National Convention in Denver and Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul, to further connect with African Americans involved in the political process. In Denver, CBCF honored retiring NEA President Reg Weaver (left) and sponsored a study of DNC delegates and proceedings that was led by a college professor and supported by four recent participants of the Foundation’s congressional fellowship program.
