Torrance County was created in 1903 from parts of Valencia and Bernalillo Counties. The Manzano Mountains, Cibola National Forest, and the Salinas national Monument are just some of the wonders in Torrance County.

Torrance County, with its proximity to Albuquerque and a rural lifestyle, is the fastest growing county in New Mexico. It includes wide open ranching country and the eastern slope of the Manzano and Sandia mountains.

The Manzano Mountains rise 10,098 feet at its highest point. Along with hiking and mountain biking, the Manzano Mountains are a perfect place for bird watching. For the avid photographer, the picturesque forests and landscapes make for great pictures. The Salt Mission Trail offers a one-of-a-kind view of the Manzano Mountains and surrounding areas.
