Tortillas!
The Albuquerque Journal reports that sales of flour and corn tortillas, according to trade groups, has nearly doubled in less than a decade to about 7 billion pounds a year. That`s enough to feed every American at least one tortilla a day.
Says the Journal: Not surprisingly, more than half the tortillas sold are still consumed in the West--New Mexico, Arizona and California. But the rest of the nation is catching up as chain restaurants offer tortilla-wrapped sandwiches and salads. It`s a boom reminiscent of 1992`s announcment that salsa had surpassed ketchup as numero uno among condiments. |
