"A new Center will be a great help to our seniors." Mayor Gloria Chavez, Tijeras
Tijeras – Heather recently joined seniors at the Los Vecinos Community Center in Tijeras to announce the progress of $500,000 she requested in a major appropriations bill for a new Senior Center across the street.
At her request, the federal support has been passed by the House of Representatives as part of the Departments of Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2007 and now only awaits action by the U.S. Senate.
“I’m so pleased that this important funding is in this bill,” Heather said. “A new senior center will benefit the entire Tijeras community. The facility will be a focal point for social activities, information and resources for seniors.”
Currently, seniors gather at the Community Center when the facility is not in use, but they share the schedule with a number of other community activities, such as school programs.
“This bill is great news for Tijeras,” said Mayor Gloria Chavez. “We appreciate Congresswoman Wilson’s work on this much-needed project for our community. A new Center will be a great help to our seniors.”
