American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes Wilson for her support and dedication
Albuquerque, N.M. – Congresswoman Heather Wilson (R-NM) was honored today with an Excellence in Public Service Award by the American Academy of Pediatrics for her work on children’s health care issues in 2007. Wilson was one of only four members of Congress awarded with this honor.
“Representative Wilson is a true champion for children and adolescents,” says Robert Miller, MD, FAAP, president of the New Mexico Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. “She knows that if children grow up healthy, they have the best possible chance to succeed in life. The AAP looks forward to continuing to work with Representative Wilson to ensure that all children receive the health care they deserve.”
“I’m honored that the American Academy of Pediatrics has chosen me for the Excellence in Public Service award this year,” Wilson said. “I will continue to work hard to ensure children have access to health care and are given the opportunity to lead healthy lives from an early age.”
The American Academy of Pediatrics acknowledged Wilson’s record on children’s health legislation, including her support of SCHIP and Medicaid, upon honoring her with this award.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has awarded national officials for their outstanding contributions to America's mothers and children through the public policy process since 1971.
