 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today U.S. Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO) issued the following statement congratulating the new Democratic Leadership for the 110th Congress.

“Congratulations to Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader-elect Steny Hoyer, Majority Whip-elect James Clyburn and Caucus Chairman-elect Rahm Emanuel in their richly deserved election.

“Today is an exciting new day for our nation.  The American public gave the Democrats control of the House and the Senate because they want a Congress that will look out for them, not the special interests.  They expect us to solve the many problems facing our country including Iraq, energy security, expanding stem cell research, and the minimum wage.  By electing these leaders we are sending a clear message that Democrats are serious about taking America in a new direction and restoring integrity to Congress.
