(Beaver, PA) - U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-4) today presented Beaver County Commissioners Tony Amadio, Charles Camp, and Joe Spanik with a check for $750,000 in federal funding to continue the Freedom Road Upgrade Project. Former Congressman Ron Klink also attended today's event at the Beaver County Courthouse.
Congressman Altmire specifically requested that this funding be included in the House's final budget to ensure the Freedom Road Upgrade Project continues moving forward. To date, nearly $11 million in federal funds has been secured for this initiative.
By improving access to Cranberry Township, the Freedom Road Upgrade Project will help western Pennsylvanians take advantage of job opportunities created by recent economic growth there. It will also facilitate the distribution of goods from the nearby Conway Railroad Yards and eliminate an unsafe and unnecessary detour currently taken by emergency first responders.
"This funding will help Beaver County move ahead with improvements to Freedom Road, providing residents with a safer, more efficient way to travel to Cranberry Township," Altmire said. "Constructing a better Freedom Road will help emergency responders reach people in need and make it easier for local residents to take advantage of new job opportunities. Making this investment in our district's transportation infrastructure now will help pave the way for economic growth in the future."
The check Congressman Altmire is presenting is part of more than $60 million in funding that he secured for Pennsylvania's Fourth Congressional District in the final budget the House passed in late December.
