Baird Honored for His Commitment to Science (March 25, 2009)

Washington, D.C.- Congressman Brian Baird (D-WA-03) has been honored for his commitment to science by the nonpartisan Center for Inquiry.  Baird, who currently chairs the Energy and Environment Subcommittee of the House Science and Technology Committee, is one of only 6 Members of Congress to be honored.

"As a social scientist by training, I am particularly honored to receive this award," said Congressman Baird. "As we continue the effort to rebuild the American economy, science and innovation must play a key role.  The solutions to energy independence, climate overheating, and ocean acidification all lie in the green jobs of tomorrow. I look forward to working with the Obama Administration on these issues in the coming months and years."

The Center for Inquiry highlighted Congressman Baird's leadership of the Research and Science Education Subcommittee in the 110th Congress, and his work on behalf of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.  Baird was also honored for his work in promoting science diplomacy as a vital tool in international relations.

The other Members of Congress to be honored by the Center for Inquiry are: Diana L. DeGette (D, CO-1), Vernon J. Ehlers (R, MI-3), Eddie Bernice Johnson (D, TX-30), Henry A. Waxman (D, CA-30), and Michael M. Honda (D, CA-15)
