Brian Announces Funding for New Center for Cowlitz County Veterans (July 23, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Brian Baird (D-WA-03) announced funding for a new shelter for homeless veterans in Cowlitz County has been included in the latest in a series of appropriations bills that will fund the federal government for the 2010 fiscal year.  H.R. 3288 funds the Department of Transportation and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The bill must still be passed by the Senate.

"Our veterans never quit on America, and we must never quit on them," said Congressman Baird.  "I have always been a leading advocate for improving the care and services we provide to our veterans. This money will go a long way to helping ensure that veterans in Cowlitz County receive the resources, treatment and training they deserve to rejoin civilian society in a productive manner."

The details of this project are as follows: 

Homeless Veterans Housing and Service Center in Longview, WA - $200,000

This project will provide the funding needed to expand services currently available to local veterans, and to place those services all under one roof.  The new center will provide transitional housing to as many as 20 veterans, as well as house veteran supportive services, and staff that will help veterans access services that will promote housing stability, increase life and professional skills, as well as income and promote greater self-sufficiency.
