Baird Secures Crucial Funds to Fight Methamphetamine Use and Production in Southwest Washington (December 8, 2003)

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Brian Baird secured $2 million to fund the Washington State Meth Initiative and help our communities fight methamphetamine.

The Washington State Meth Initiative provides funding for law enforcement, treatment, training and meth lab cleanup efforts to combat methamphetamine.  Key aspects of the initiative include the “Meth Moms” program, designed to help women overcome their addiction to meth and reunite them with their dependent children.  Funds from the Washington State Meth Initiative will also go to the WA State Department of Ecology for the cleanup of hazardous materials used in the production of methamphetamine.

“The funding secured here helps with all aspects of the fight against meth,” said Rep. Baird “The WA State Meth Initiative  educates, trains and treats those directly affected by meth and helps protect our law enforcement officers who bust meth labs.  I will continue working to provide the resources we need to rid our state of this terrible plague.”
