Washington, D.C.
- Congressman Gus M. Bilirakis (R-Palm Harbor) voted in favor of legislation today (H.R. 5) that would gradually cut certain federal student loan interest rates in half.  Specifically, the bill would reduce interest rates on subsidized Stafford loans for undergraduate students from 6.8% to 3.4% over five years.

"I am pleased to vote to reduce the financial burden that high interest rates on student loans place on students and their families," Bilirakis said.  "I look forward to doing even more in the coming weeks and months to make college more affordable."

The House passed H.R. 5 by a vote of 356 to 71.
