H.R. 946 Plain Language Act of 2009

This bill requires federal agencies to use plain writing in certain government documents. H.R. 946 was introduced by Rep. Braley on February 10, 2009. Rep. Braley introduced a similar bill, H.R. 3548, in the 110th Congress. H.R. 3548 was approved by the Subcommittee on Information Policy, Census, and National Archives on January 29, 2008, by voice vote. The full Committee considered H.R. 3548 on March 13, 2008, and ordered the bill reported favorably by voice vote. H.R. 3548 passed the House on April 14, 2008, by a vote of 376 – 1.
