Third Stimulus Oversight Hearing to Examine Challenges Facing States, Local Governments

Washington, DC – On Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will hold a hearing entitled, “Tracking the Money: Preventing Waste, Fraud, and Abuse of Recovery Act Funding.” This is the third in a series of hearings examining the implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

The hearing, which will take place in room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building, will review the unique challenges of states and localities in carrying out the Recovery Act, with particular attention to ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and minimizing waste, fraud, and abuse.

Chairman Towns has vowed to keep a close eye on the implementation of economic stimulus plan. Along with launching this nationwide stimulus oversight plan, Chairman Towns helped draft strict accountability and oversight language included in the stimulus package, and since launching the stimulus oversight plan, he authored legislation to help state and local governments meet the Recovery Act’s oversight provisions. The Chairman’s legislation, “Enhanced Oversight of State and Local Economic Recover Act” (H.R. 2182), passed the House on May 19, 2009.
