For immediate release: Tuesday, August 25, 2009 Chairman Towns Opens Investigation into Federal Procurement SystemWasington, DC - Chairman Edolphus “Ed” Towns today announced that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is conducting a broad investigation of problems with the Federal procurement system.As part of the investigation, Chairman Towns is examining events surrounding the award of certain contracts involving the U.S. Army’s Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM). The Committee first learned of the contract awards in a Washington Post story published on Friday, August 7, 2009, titled, “A $191 Million Question: How a relationship between an Army official and a private contractor led to allegations of collusion and impropriety.” The Chairman sent a letter to the U.S. Merit Protection Board requesting a case file, Barbara T.
