Louis Gossett Jr. Testifies Before House Oversight Committee

to Discuss Battle With Prostate Cancer


 

WASHINGTON – Actor Louis Gossett Jr. testified today before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform during a hearing titled, “Prostate Cancer:  New Questions About Screening and Treatment.”  Last month Mr. Gossett revealed that recently he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and that the cancer is in an early stage.  Chairman Edolphus “Ed” Towns (D-NY) invited Mr. Gossett to testify and Mr. Gossett appeared before the committee to help bring attention to the issue.

House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Edolphus “Ed” Towns (D-NY) and actor Louis Gossett Jr. meet ahead of the committee hearing, “Prostate Cancer:  New Questions About Screening and Treatment.”


The hearing was held on March 4, 2010.   The hearing focused on recent debates about the efficacy of screening for prostate cancer, the latest developments in screening and treatment for prostate cancer, and ongoing research.  In addition, the National Cancer Institute and the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command discussed their respective prostate cancer research programs.
