Congressman Reichert believes in providing broad-based tax relief for families and businesses in order to grow our economy and create jobs. He has fought to make the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent, especially the state sales tax deduction that affects every single Washington State taxpayer. Americans will see the largest tax increase in history if Congress does not act to make the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent, and Congressman Reichert believes that the last thing we should do in the face of economic uncertainty is to raise taxes on hard-working Americans.

§         Led the fight to extend and make permanent the deduction of state sales tax, creating fairness for taxpayers regardless of one’s state of residence.

§         Supported tax credits and deductions to help families pay for child care and education, including the creation of tax-free savings accounts for children to use for education expenses.

§         Supported tax incentives for businesses to produce more goods, hire more workers, and remain competitive in the global economy.

§         Supported extending the dividends and capital gains tax cuts and indexing capital gains for inflation, so that families are not unfairly taxed on property purchased years earlier.

§         Combating wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars by supporting comprehensive earmark reform.
