  • NSO Young Soloists’ Competition

    To perform as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra is every music student's dream, and this is the prize of the NSO Young Soloists' competition, High School Division, designed to encourage and foster the development of young performing artists in the Washington metropolitan area. In addition, one winner will be presented with a $1,000 cash award in 2010 and perform as soloist with the National Symphony in a concert in the 2010-2011 season.  All finalists will be invited to join the student membership of the Friday Morning Music Club without audition. Winners will receive a one-year dues-free membership.

    Deadline for application is Friday, January 14, 2011.

  • National Symphony Orchestra's Summer Music Institute

    Every summer, approximately 70 students (ages 15-20) from all over the nation meet in Washington, D.C., to attend the National Symphony Orchestra's Summer Music Institute (SMI). The Institute offers four weeks of private lessons, rehearsals, coaching by National Symphony Orchestra members, classes, and lectures to prepare aspiring musicians for their futures in music.  For additional information or to apply visit our website.  The application deadline is Friday, January 28, 2011. 

  • Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell

    The three-week summer intensive, Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell, gives intermediate to advanced-level ballet students, aged 14-18, an opportunity to study with the legendary prima ballerina, Suzanne Farrell.   The application deadline for the 2010 Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell program is December 27, 2010.   Click here for application information.

  • The Kennedy Center/Stephen Sondheim Inspiration Teacher Awards

    The Kennedy Center will present a series of annual grants that recognize inspiring teachers across the U.S. who are nominated via the Kennedy Center website.
