Cummings Applauds Passage Of Job Creation Bill

Congressman pleased that legislation also closes tax loopholes.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07) today voted to pass H.R. 4213, the American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act. The bill passed the House and will now move to the Senate for final passage.

H.R. 4213 will support millions of small businesses by restoring their credit; extending tax incentives for American research and development into technology including clean energy; rebuilding American infrastructure; extending unemployment benefits until November; providing sales tax, property tax and tuition relief for middle class American families; and providing funds for summer youth employment.

“For me and my Democratic colleagues, putting Americans back to work is our first priority,” said Cummings. “Everything we do here in Washington must be tempered by the knowledge that millions of Americans are still sitting in their homes with their families suffering, their skills eroding, and their self-esteem dwindling. They badly want to return to work, to gain both a paycheck and the respect that comes with steady employment. This bill provides small businesses with the opportunity to create those jobs and I am proud to have voted for it today.”

H.R. 4213 helps control spending by closing tax loopholes and enforcing corporate accountability. This includes preventing corporations from shipping jobs overseas and sticking American taxpayers with the bill; making Wall Street hedge fund billionaires pay a fair income tax; and making the oil industry pay to ensure there are sufficient funds to clean up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Because of these provisions, the legislation remains completely compliant with the Pay-As-You-Go policies passed last year, which demands Congress keep a tight rein on Federal spending.
