Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the full House of Representatives has approved funding for projects in the 12th Congressional District as part of the Conference Report on Defense Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2002. This is the final version of the legislation which is expected to be signed into law after approval by the Senate.
"These projects contribute to our national security as well as the regional economy," said Costello. "I am pleased that we have completed consideration of this important legislation."
The projects include:
* $2 million for Saboted Light Armor Penetrating (SLAP) military ammunition for heavy machine guns, which is manufactured by the Olin Corporation in East Alton.
* $24 million for M919 ammunition for the Bradley Fighting Vehicles 25mm Bushmaster cannon, which is loaded, assembled, and packed by General Dynamics in Marion.
