Two Tucson agencies will receive $445,000 from Department of Labor for job training
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords today announced that two Tucson organizations will receive a total of $445,000 to provide job training for homeless veterans.
“When we asked our men and women in uniform to step forward and serve our country, they were there for us,” said Giffords, a member of the House Armed Services Committee. “It now is essential that we, as a nation, do everything possible to help veterans who are homeless get the training they need to find employment in the civilian workforce.”
Pima County will receive $245,000 and the Primavera Foundation will receive $200,000 under the Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program. The Pima County award is a renewal of a grant received last year while the Primavera funding is new.
The funding will be used for employment and training services as well as housing for veterans who are homeless and seeking employment.
The two Southern Arizona grants are part of 97 awards nationwide totaling more than $24 million. The money will provide about 14,000 veterans with job training to help them succeed in civilian careers.
Arizona is receiving a total of $744,977 from the Department of Labor. The Arizona Opportunities Industrialization Center in Phoenix will receive a $299,977.
