Helicopter tour of border, meeting with business leaders also planned
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will be joined by Border Patrol Chief David Aguilar on Tuesday for a community town hall on immigration and border issues.
The two-hour town hall is part of a series of back-to-back events on immigration and border issues that will be taking place this week, the first full week of the congressional April recess. Topics of discussion at the town hall will include new legislation to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws and border security strategies such as checkpoints.
At the invitation of the Border Patrol, Giffords is in Laredo, Texas, today where she is viewing a state-of-the-art permanent checkpoint. The Tucson lawmaker begins her day on Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. speech to the Breakfast Club of Tucson. At 9 a.m. she and Aguilar will take a helicopter tour of the border.
