U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords kicks off a busy August district work period on Friday with a community briefing about her recent trip to Israel at Tucson’s Jewish Community Center.
The Tucson lawmaker, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, will provide an overview of her meetings with top officials from the Israeli and Palestinian governments.
On Saturday, Giffords visits Green Valley to hold the first of three public forums on proposed changes to Medicare. Later that day in Tucson the congresswoman will address about 200 members of the India Society of Southern Arizona and attend a birthday celebration in honor of the city’s founding 232 years ago.
On Monday, Giffords will be joined by former U.S. Defense Secretary William Perry and other experts for a roundtable discussion on military readiness. The congresswoman also serves on the House Armed Services Committee.
Giffords’ schedule next week also includes a meeting with her Community Workgroup on Southern Arizona Checkpoints; a tour of the Mirror Lab at the University of Arizona; and her eighth "Congress on Your Corner," an opportunity for constituents to meet one-on-one with the congresswoman.
