The two-hour town hall is the first in an ongoing series of outreach efforts by the
“My goal is to make Congress accessible to everyone,” Giffords said today as she announced the town hall. “Being a Representative is not just a job, it's a job description. And the best way for me to represent the people of my district is to be where they are, go where they go and hear what they have to say.”
Giffords and members of her staff will set up a temporary congressional office outside of the Safeway at 11 a.m. Constituents are invited to come and meet the congresswoman and learn about the services available through her office.
“If you just want to stop by and say hello or are having a problem with a specific issue, such as Social Security, veteran's benefits or anything else, you're welcome,” Giffords said. “We are here to serve.”
Like the “listening tour” Giffords took after her election in November, the one-on-one town hall meetings will be held in various locations throughout the 9,057-square mile district. Look for future announcements.
