Events in Tucson, Green Valley and Sierra Visa planned
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords kicked off a very busy week of district activities on Monday by announcing plans for a Solar Energy Economic Summit.
Speaking before a meeting with her Solar Energy Advisory Council, the Tucson lawmaker said the summit is aimed at transforming Arizona into a national leader in the development and use of solar energy. The summit will include national and international experts in solar energy, and will take place at the University of Arizona’s world famous Biosphere. A date has not been set.
Giffords also announced a renewed push for the extension of renewable energy tax credits and a congressional field on solar energy.
Today, Giffords will meet with representatives of the Tucson Association of Realtors and then join the first anniversary celebration of the Breast Cancer Boot Camp at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park. After back to back media interviews on Wednesday, the congresswoman on Thursday will speak to the Sunrise Rotary Club and then announce critical funding for the development of asymmetric warfare technology at the University of Arizona.
Giffords on Friday will meet with her Senior Advisory Council, tape Arizona Illustrated, go to an open house at Tucson’s East Side City Hall, and attend the Tucson Symphony. The congresswoman travels to Green Valley on Saturday, when she will host her eleventh Congress on Your Corner before delivering remarks at an award ceremony at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and a fundraiser for Dunbar School.
On Monday, Giffords will visit Sierra Vista where she will take part in a memorial ceremony for Southern Arizona veterans and meet with the editorial board of the Sierra Vista Herald.
