Fiscal Year 2009 Funding for Small Business Development, Rural Health Care, Flood Control and Local Law Enforcement Approved by House Appropriations Committee
U.S. Gabrielle Giffords praised the House Appropriations Committee for having completed consideration of five of its twelve Fiscal Year 2009 appropriations bills prior to adjourning last week. Those five bills include 15 projects for Southern Arizona that would benefit the economy in Southern Arizona.
"Southern Arizonans send billions in taxes to Washington, D.C. It is my job to make sure these hard-earned dollars return home, especially during this period of economic downturn," Giffords said.
Residents of Arizona's 8th Congressional District paid over $2.25 billion in taxes in 2005, the most recent tax year data available.
In late June, the House Appropriations Committee passed the following funding bills: Commerce/Justice/Science, Energy & Water, Military Construction & Veterans Affairs bill, Homeland Security, and Financial Services. The seven remaining bills will be considered after the July 4th holiday.
"While the Appropriations process is far from over and several other requests of mine have yet to be considered, I am pleased that a few very important projects have been approved," said Giffords.
