U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords kicks off a busy weekend of district activities today with a speech at Green Valley’s American Legion Post commemorating the 66th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Two attack survivors are expected to attend this event.
At 2 p.m. today, the Tucson lawmaker will announce the names of nearly 500 Southern Arizonans who are owed a total of $385,000 by the Internal Revenue Service. At a press conference at her Tucson district office, Giffords will explain how taxpayers can pursue their unclaimed refunds, which amount to $3.8 million statewide.
Giffords will visit Tucson’s Community Food Bank on Saturday afternoon, when she will participate in the dedication of the organization’s “Walk of Hope.” Giffords also will urge Southern Arizonans to help meet the Community Food Bank’s growing needs during this holiday season.
Giffords also will participate in the Oro Valley Holiday Parade, visit with United Parcel Service employees, speak to about 450 naval reservists, and address the annual meeting of the National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade. A detailed weekend schedule is below.
