WASHINGTON. D.C. – House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Darrell Issa (R-CA) today commended Census Director Nominee Robert M. Groves for his statement that he will rule out the use of statistical sampling in the 2010 Census and for his commitment to keep the White House and all other sources of political manipulation and interference out of the Census Bureau.

In sworn testimony this morning before the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Mr. Groves declared his support for an objective, nonpartisan and professional Census Bureau.

“I share Mr. Groves’ commitment to a nonpartisan Census Bureau and commend him for acknowledging that the Census is a constitutional responsibility and function of the Congress,” said Rep. Issa.  “We will continue to work to provide the Bureau with adequate funding and oversight needed to count every person once, only once and in the right place.  Upon his confirmation by the U.S. Senate, I look forward to working with Mr. Groves toward our shared goal of a fair, accurate and trustworthy enumeration.”
