If White House Has Nothing to Hide and Did Nothing Wrong, Support Resolution of Inquiry on Sestak-Romanoff PDF Print E-mail

WASHINGTON. D.C. – Appearing on ABC’s This Week, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel says there is “nothing more that’s needed” to disclose regarding the White House’s effort to dispatch former President Bill Clinton to offer Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak (D-PA) an unpaid, appointed position he could not accept in an attempt to obtain his withdrawal from the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate Primary election.  Last Friday, Republicans on the Judiciary Committee, led by Ranking Member Lamar Smith (R-TX), filed a Resolution of Inquiry that could be debated as early as this Wednesday, demanding information about what role the Justice Department may have played in the job offers made to Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) and Colorado senatorial candidate Andrew Romanoff.

“House Democrats face a simple question, they can join with us in holding the Obama Administration to the very standard of transparency they set for themselves or they can condone a White House intent on manipulating elections by any means necessary,” said Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), a member of the House Judiciary Committee and the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.  “The very memo Rahm Emanuel says exonerates the White House only served to raise additional questions regarding the White House’s role in pressuring Admiral Sestak out of the Pennsylvania Senate primary.  If they have nothing to hide and did nothing wrong, there is no reason why the White House or House Democrats should not welcome the full release of information collected in the White House’s investigation of itself so they can clear the air once and for all.”

The Judiciary Committee is required to take up the resolution within 14 legislative days.  If passed by the House, the resolution would require the Justice Department to provide all requested documents to Congress.
