WASHINGTON D.C. – Rep. Darrell Issa, the Ranking Member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, issued the following statement regarding President Barack Obama’s campaign-style speech in Ohio:

“As the American people have watched an unparalleled growth in government, Leader Boehner has put forward some common sense economic proposals that will provide meaningful relief to the working families who have been hit the hardest by this recession – all President Obama has to do is say yes to these policies.  How does the President respond?  With political theater and rhetoric geared at political battles from the past, rather than directly confronting the uncertain future facing so many working American.  The President campaigned on the powerful idea of change – he now has an opportunity to act beyond the political calendar to partner with us and do something that directly addresses the American people’s concerns with government growth and higher taxes.”

Earlier today, Republican Leader John Boehner’s (R-OH) put forward a proposal to bring government spending back to 2008 levels and freeze current tax rates before American families’ tax burden increases next year.
