Stimulus money will be used for eight projects
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords today announced that Fort Huachuca will receive $4,574,808 in federal economic recovery funds.
The funds will be used for eight construction projects at the Sierra Vista military installation, one of the largest employers in Southern Arizona.
Many of the projects are aimed at increasing energy efficiency, such as repairing a boiler, improving windows and doors, replacing an old air conditioning unit, and switching to more energy efficient lighting. The list also includes the repair of two sewer lines and paving.
Fort Huachuca is one of two military bases in Southern Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. Giffords is a member of the House Armed Services Committee.
Federal economic recovery funds are being made available as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The act was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Obama earlier this year.
