Kucinich Finds Significant Factual Error in FTC Letter on "Hot Fuels," Questions FTC Conclusions; FTC Apologizes for Misinformation |
On Friday, September 7, 2007, Chairman Dennis Kucinich sent a letter to Federal Trade Commission Chairwoman Deborah Platt Majoras, pointing out significant errors in an FTC letter on "hot fuels." A computation error led the FTC to underestimate the consequences of hot fuels by an order of magnitude. This error raises doubts about the validity of many of the opinions FTC expressed in the letter. FTC had responded to a request by Ranking Member Issa for an opinion on the “hot fuels” issue. The FTC response was released to the public by Rep. Issa on September 6, 2007. On September 11, 2007, the FTC wrote to Kucinich to apologize for the misinformation in their earlier letter.
